Have you ever wished that you could reboot your brain to fix bad habits? There may not be a simple “restart” button on your brain, but there is a way that you can essentially do a reboot. Like restarting your computer, you’ll still maintain everything you had before, but it has the potential to fix the “bugs.” This is essentially what Neurofeedback is.
Neurofeedback is a low-voltage stimulation that allows the brain to re-establish healthy neural patterns by sending a tiny signal to the brain that allows it to get rid of dysfunctional patterns. These signals cause slight fluctuations in brainwaves, which allows frozen brainwave patterns to be disrupted. Doing this can help the brain reorganize itself.
When would you want a “brain reboot?” Neurofeedback is used to improve disorders such as:
- Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI)
- Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
Since Neurofeedback produces changes in brainwaves it allows for self-regulation without any effort from the patient. It optimizes brain function and relaxes the nervous system. Patients have shown signs of improvement in mood, irritability, impulsiveness, headaches, clarity, self-control, and addiction craving control. This makes daily activities so much easier to manage. Patients will need about 20 sessions, but ongoing treatment is not typically needed.
Despite what you may have assumed, a brain reboot may actually be possible. You can’t hit restart per se, but you can choose Neurofeedback to help your brain reorganize itself and perform better.
